In the 19th century, a new leader arose in the region. He was Imam Muhammad bin Saud and he was the founder of the Saud dynasty. He established an Islamic state based on the teachings of the Quran and the Sunnah. He called this state the Emirate of Nejd and it became the base of the modern Saudi state 🇸🇦.
Mecca and Medina two of the most important and holy cities in Islam were both located in the Emirate of Nejd and were under the control of the Saud family 👪 2️⃣. Imam Muhammad bin Saud established a strong alliance with the Al Rashid family of nearby Hail, and together they were able to expand the Emirate of Nejd and capture more of the Arabian peninsula.
In 1902 Imam Muhammad bin Abdulaziz – the son of Imam Muhammad bin Saud – captured Riyadh city and declared it capital of the new Saudi state 🇸🇦 🆕. He was proclaimed King Abdulaziz Bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud and thus began the Saudi dynasty 🇸🇦.
The new kingdom increased its power and influence over the region in the early 20th century and in the 1930s King Abdulaziz was able to bring an end to the Ottoman Empire’s rule in the region. He declared the unification of the four regions of the Arabian Peninsula in 1932 creating the modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
King Abdulaziz who is often referred to as Ibn Saud was the first ruler of the modern Saudi state.
