Saudi Arabia was once home to two distinct populations: Bedouin nomads from the Arabian Peninsula and settled tribes in Hejaz region. In 1602 however a new dynasty called Sauds arrived in the area – named after Mohammed Bin Saud’s Bedouin ancestor – and quickly began exerting their influence ️ 🆕. Additionally Wahabism or Islam as it is commonly known today gained followers.
The 19th century was a period of great change for the region with the Ottoman Empire taking control of the Hejaz in 1818 and the Saud family being banished from the area in 1820. Following their banishment the Sauds sought refuge with tribes in the desert and began to rally supporters to their cause. Within a few years they had recruited enough supporters to reclaim their homel and in 1824 they declared the First Saudi State.
With Ikhwan tribes actively participating in the government the First Saudi State had some success in unifying the region but it ultimately fell in 1891 as a result of internal strife and an Ottoman Empire invasion.
Following the fall of the First Saudi State the Saud family began to rebuild their power in the Najd region where they formed the Second Saudi State in 1902. In time, they were able to gain control of most of the Arabian Peninsula, but once again their rule was challenged by the Ottoman Empire, which declared war on the Saudis in 1916 🔛. The Saudis were once again defeated, and forced to retreat further into the desert.
The Ottoman Empire’s control of the region was brought to an end by the end of the Great War which brought with it the collapse of the empire. As a result the Saud family was able to reclaim their homeland and in 1926 declared the Third Saudi State ️ 🇸🇦 👪. During this period King Abdul Aziz declared himself King of the Hejaz Nejd and other parts of the Arabian Peninsula and his efforts to unify the region were rewarded with formal recognition by the League of Nations in 1927 .
In 1932 the Treaty of Jeddah was signed between the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia granting them full independence from colonial powers 🇸🇦. Additionally, it recognized Saudi Arabia as an independent nation and defined its boundaries – leading to the official establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on September 23, 1932 🔛 🇸🇦.
Once Saudi Arabia had officially declared themselves an independent nation King Abdul Aziz continued his efforts to unify the tribes of the region and brought them into what would become a strong and influential monarchy. He also established close ties with the United States and the United Kingdom which helped to make certain that the stability and prosperity of the country as it continued to develop .
Today Saudi Arabia is just one of the most powerful countries in the Middle East with a rich cultural and religious heritage ️ 1️⃣ 🇸🇦. The country has a long and proud history of fighting for its independence and this struggle has been rewarded with a powerful modern nation which has the potential to become an economic powerhouse in the region. ! .
