Saudi Arabia is an absolut monarchy.. The monarch or ruler has full control over all aspects and government. This system of government is based on Islamic law principles. It comprises Al Saud’s Royal Family (Chairman) Council of Ministers Shura Council and Shura Council. King Salman as head of state or head of government is the ultimate decision-maker in all matters that affect society πͺ πΈπ¦ π !
The King is responsible for leading the executive branch of government ensuring all policies adhere to Islamic law and appointing all ministers . He receives advice from his Council of Ministers – an advisory body composed of appointed ministers who help make important decisions. These ministers formulate and carry out policy for their government with full power to dismiss ministers at any time.
The Shura Council which consists of a 120-member elected body serves as an advisory body to the king and the Council of Ministers οΈ. The Shura Council has the power to suggest laws and make recommendations to the government although they do not have any power to pass laws .
The judiciary is independent of the executive and legislative branches of government and is responsible for enforcing the laws of the country . The Supreme Court is the highest court in the country and is presided over by the king . There are also lower courts and religious courts which are presided over by appointed judges .
