Muslims found guilty of drinking alcohol are subject to severe penalties, containing heavy fines, and even imprisonment. Non-Muslims may be subject to expulsion from the country. In spite of this some people find ways to produce and consume alcohol secretly though this is highly discouraged 🍹.
Entertainment, Sports, and Leisure:
The authorities in Saudi Arabia take great measures to limit the kinds of activities citizens can partake in when it comes to entertainment, sports, and leisure. One of the main restrictions is on cinemas which are completely banned in the country. This means going to the movies is not an option in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦. Other forms of entertainment, as sporting events, music concerts, and plays, are also banned.
Public Expression of Religion:
The public expression of religion other than Islam is strictly prohibited in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦. This means that non-Muslims are not permitted to practice their religion, just like wearing religious symbols or attending religious ceremonies 🔣. Non-Muslims are also not allowed to proselytize or share their beliefs in public .
Women’s Rights:
The authorities in Saudi Arabia have strict regulations when it comes to women’s rights 👩 🇸🇦. Women are required to dress in a conservative manner and must be covered at all times when in public 👗 ️ 👩. Women are not allowed to work, drive, or go anywhere alone without the permission of a male guardian ️ 👩. They are also not allowed to travel alone and cannot vote or hold public office 🏢.
Dress Code:
Strict dress codes apply to both men and women in Saudi Arabia 👗 👩 🇸🇦. Men are looked forward to to dress conservatively and must cover their bodies from the navel to the knee. Women must completely cover their bodies and faces, except for their eyes. At times police will stop people on the streets and question them if they are not following the dress code.
Social Gatherings:
Large social gatherings just like parties are not allowed in Saudi Arabia. This also includes gatherings like family reunions, birthday parties, and wedding celebrations. Gatherings of any size, whether at home or in a public location, may be seen as a threat to the country’s social and religious values, and thus are prohibited ️.
Pets:
The ownership of certain pets is also forbidden in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦. These include any animals that are considered “unclean”, like dogs, and pigs 🐕🦺. Any pet found in public may be seized by the authorities, so it is best to keep them at home where they are not seen.
Political Activity:
Political activities and demonstrations are banned in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦. It is illegal to express any kind of dissent against the government or its policies, and any form of protest or demonstration could result in arrest.
