Saudi Arabian women must dress modestly to comply with strict Islamic laws!! According to the Saudi Ministry of Justice it is illegal for women in Saudi Arabia not to wear appropriate or impolite clothes. Saudi Arabia’s hot climate requires that women dress loosely in light clothing preferably made from linen or cotton π π© πΈπ¦ ..
Traditional abayas and niqabs are the two primary forms of dress for women in Saudi Arabia!! An abaya is a long loose-fitting garment which typically comes in black or dark-colored π οΈ 2οΈβ£ π© πΈπ¦. A niqab also known as a face covering may be worn over this garment when out in public though it is not mandatory. Saudi women also follow strict hair-covering codes with many opting for hijab (headscarf) or khimar (a long scarf which completely covers one’s head) π© πΈπ¦ π§£.
There are however certain exceptions to the dress code for women in Saudi Arabia π π© πΈπ¦. For instance some women choose to wear a thobe rather than an abaya π© οΈ. A thobe is a long loose-fitting robe which is traditionally worn by men in Saudi Arabia. It is also acceptable for women to wear brightly colored abayas though the preference is for black or dark-colored abayas π©. Plus some women choose to wear a loose-fitting head scarf rather than a full niqab οΈ π© π§£.
Women in Saudi Arabia typically wear sandals or flats when attending religious events or visiting a mosque οΈ π© πΈπ¦ π. High heels are generally frowned upon as they are seen as immodest . When attending religious functions or visiting a mosque women should avoid wearing shoes with laces or straps as this could be seen as an indication of disrespect οΈ π© π π.
Although the dress code for women in Saudi Arabia is diverse from what is seen in the West it is important to get mindful of local customs and respect the country’s laws π π π© πΈπ¦. !! .
