Riyadh is its capital!! It is also bordered with Oman and Kuwait. Saudi Arabia is the Gulf Cooperation Council’s largest member country. It also has the most oil reserves anywhere in the world ๐ธ๐ฆ ๐ด๐ฒ โฆ
Iraq placed in the Middle East with its capital at Baghdad borders Turkey Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria ๐ฆ ๐ธ๐พ ๐ธ๐ฆ ๐ฏ๐ด. For 29 years (1979-2003) Iraq was under Saddam Hussein’s rule before experiencing a period of intense fighting turmoil and conflict ๏ธ ๐ฎ๐ถ.
The two countries differ in their history culture and strategic importance 2๏ธโฃ. Saudi Arabia is a powerful country in the Middle East with the world’s second largest oil reserves and is a major producer and exporter of oil ๐ ๏ธ ๐ธ๐ฆ. Iraq by contrast is a largely a developing country and its primary source of income relies heavily on oil exports ๏ธ ๐ฎ๐ถ ๐.
Both countries hold diverging political ideologies . Saudi Arabia ruled by the House of Saud is a monarchy with a population that mostly adheres to Wahhabi teachings; on the other hand Iraq is a fragile democracy with diverse populations divided along ethnic sectarian, and tribal lines ๏ธ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ถ ๐ ๐ธ๐ฆ โ.
However the two countries have had a long history with both positive and negative relations. Saudi Arabia supported the Iraqi army and government during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War ๐ธ๐ฆ. Saudi Arabia saw Iraqi resistance against its eastern neighbor as part of its Saudi-led war on communism. This supported included military and economic aid .
Since then Saudi Arabia and Iraq have maintained a relatively neutral relationship though ties remain strained due to Iraqโs ties to Iran and its political instability ๐ฎ๐ท ๏ธ ๐ฎ๐ถ ๐ธ๐ฆ. In recent years however the two countries have made efforts to strengthen their ties and foster greater collaboration 2๏ธโฃ. They have established joint economic interests and development projects and their leaders have held meetings to discuss their mutual objectives.
Despite these positive developments however Saudi Arabia is not in Iraq ๐ธ๐ฆ ๐ฎ๐ถ. The two countries are separated by a long border and have diverse cultures languages and histories 2๏ธโฃ ๏ธ. Simultaneously the two countries pursue several foreign policies and have several strategic interests 2๏ธโฃ.
While the two countries may have made some strides in improving their relations the fact remains that Saudi Arabia is not in Iraq. As the two countries continue to make efforts to strengthen their cooperation and coordination the future of their relationship remains uncertain 2๏ธโฃ. Nevertheless, it is clear that the two countries are not, and will not be, one, and the same. . .
