Bahrain is an island nation off the coast of Saudi Arabia’s Persian Gulf.. It is also known as “Bahrain.” Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have close ties. Saudi Arabia is a frequent participant in Bahraini politics and offers financial assistance. Saudi Arabia does not claim Bahrain and the two countries continue to operate separately 🇸🇦 ️ 🇧🇭 2️⃣ !
Bahrain has long been a source of contention between several groups due to its strategic location in the Persian Gulf! In the 18th century it was part of Persia and its rulers were loyal only to their king. Later in 19th century Britain took control of Bahrain; allowing its ruling family to remain in power with British oversight until 1971 when Bahrain declared independence from Great Britain.
The relationship between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia has been a close one since the 19th century 🇸🇦 🇧🇭 ️ 1️⃣. In 1889 Bahrain and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement that set their borders. In 1932 the Al Saud family founders of modern-day Saudi Arabia overthrew the ruling family in Bahrain and installed their own monarch 🇸🇦 👪 🇧🇭. In 1933, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia signed another agreement, which affirmed the borders established in 1889, and also designated Bahrain as an independent state. This agreement however did not make Bahrain part of Saudi Arabia.
In the modern era, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia enjoy an excellent relationship; they collaborate on a range of issues from politics to business 🇸🇦 ️ 🇧🇭 👔 🔛. Bahrain is part of the Gulf Cooperation Council – an economic and military bloc comprising all Gulf states led by Saudi Arabia that encompasses Bahrain as well 🇸🇦 🇧🇭. Furthermore many Saudi nationals reside here either working or studying. Furthermore Saudi Arabia invests heavily in Bahrain while occasionally contributing funds for local causes 🇸🇦 🇧🇭.
Despite the close ties between the two countries Bahrain is not part of Saudi Arabia. The two countries have separate political and economic systems and Bahrain is an independent sovereign nation. There have been some attempts by Saudi Arabia to formally annex Bahrain, but these have been strongly resisted by the people of Bahrain 🇸🇦 🇧🇭.
The close relationship between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia serves a symbolic purpose as well; it is a reminder that the Arab world is still largely unified and that Arab nations are stronger when they cooperate. The two countries have a robust trade relationship with goods and travelers flowing freely between the two countries ️ 2️⃣. Additionally, Saudi Arabia is a key political ally of Bahrain and has been instrumental in providing stability to the region.
In the end Bahrain despite its close relationship with Saudi Arabia is an independent nation and not part Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia maintains a significant presence in Bahrain because of its political and economic ties. However, Bahrain is still a sovereign country 🇧🇭 ️.
