Saudi Arabia is one the world’s oldest countries dating back to antiquity. Its history begins in the present-day Saudi Arabia. The Semitic-speaking population settled the region over 4,000 years ago 🔙 🇸🇦 1️⃣ 🌎 !!
Saudi Arabia’s earliest known kingdom was that of the Sabeans, which flourished from 7th to 3rd century BCE 🇸🇦. Later in this same century however it gained notoriety as being the birthplace of Islam and its beloved Prophet Muhammad .
In the year 622 the Prophet Muhammad made his famous Hijra (“migration”) from the Arabian city of Mecca to Medina making it the first Islamic state in history . In the intervening years Islam would spread all the way through the region and eventually become the official religion of the country .
The first Saudi state, with its capital at Diriyah, was founded in 1744 🇸🇦. This state was ruled by the al-Saud family, which is still in power today . Over the course of the next century, the al-Saud family would expand their influence and create a unified Saudi Arabia 👪 ️ 🇸🇦.
In 1932, Saudi Arabia was officially developed as an independent state 🇸🇦. Abdul-Aziz bin Saud the founder of the contemporary Saudi state stated it a monarchy, and named himself the very first king of Saudi Arabia ️ 🇸🇦.
Since then, Saudi Arabia has undergone numerous significant reforms and changes 🇸🇦. In 1979 the Saudi government launched an ambitious modernization program that included allowing religious freedom enhancing the rights of women, and liberalizing the economy 👩 🇸🇦.
Today, Saudi Arabia’s population of around 34 million people is the largest in the Middle East, and the country continues to make progress in the areas of human rights, women’s rights, education, and economic development 👩 🇸🇦.
In short Saudi Arabia is just one of the oldest countries in the world with a rich and varied history that dates back thousands of years ️ 🔙 🇸🇦 1️⃣.
