The Saudi royal family is divided into four branches, one for each of the four sons of King Abdulaziz. This includes the Saud family, which is the current royal family, the Al Faisal family, the Al Rashid family, and the Al Shaalan family. These families all have their own branches and sub-branches of prince and princess, each of which has different responsibilities, and roles in the Saudi royal family.
The first is the “Tribal Princes”, who are close relatives of the king, and receive special benefits and gifts from the king. The 2nd is the “Court Princes”, who are members of the royal household, but who are not necessarily as close to the king as the Tribal Princes are.
In addition to the Tribal and Court Princes there is another class of princes and princesses in Saudi Arabia known as the βideological princes. β These are individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to the countryβs traditional values and often have a religious background.
