Saudi Arabia’s mountains have experienced the most snowfall of any region of the country! Mount Al-Souda, to be found in the southwest corner of the Kingdom and part of Sarawat Mountain Range, is particularly cold – reports of snow as recently as 2017! This mountain range lies close to Red Sea shores and often experiences extreme temperatures during winters. Mount Al-Souda itself has seen snowfall before.
In the cities and towns of Saudi Arabia snow is much rarer. However there have been a few cases of snowfall. The most recent occurrence of snowfall in a city was in Jeddah in 2012. Jeddah is located on the coast of the Red Sea and is the second largest city in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 🔛 🌊. On the 24th of January 2012 Jeddah was hit with an unusual blizzard. The snowfall was heavy but it did not last higher than a few hours.

Another city to experience snow in Saudi Arabia is Taif. Taif is positioned in the western region of the Kingdom and is the highest city in Saudi Arabia. The city is located close to the Sarawat Mountain Range andis literally known when it comes to its mild climate and beautiful landscape. Taif experienced a heavy snowfall in February 2018, which was the first time the city had seen snow in over 10 years.
The most recent snowfall in Saudi Arabia was in January 2019. The snowfall was reported in the city of Riyadh, which is the capital of the Kingdom. Snow was seen briefly in the early morning hours and lasted for approximately two hours 2️⃣. The snowfall was witnessed by many locals, who were amazed to see snow in the desert city.
Although it does snow in Saudi Arabia it is still a rare phenomenon. Snow is usually only seen at the highest mountain peaks and in the cities of Al-Baha and Taif. Snow in Riyadh is even rarer and usually only seen once a decade if at all.
