It may seem paradoxical that Israel Saudi Arabia and other nations at odds could be allies.. For decades tensions have existed between the two countries. Saudi Arabia has refused to recognize Israel’s existence and Israel has occupied territory claimed by Saudi Arabia 🇮🇱 🇸🇦 2️⃣ !! Recently however diplomatic relations between the two countries have been rekindled prompting many people to wonder: Are Israel and Saudi Arabia really allies?
For much of the past two decades, Israel and Saudi Arabia had no diplomatic relations and even led a boycott against Israeli goods in 2000!! But as Middle Eastern politics have progressed so has their relationship 🇮🇱 🇸🇦 2️⃣ ️. While there is still work to get done it appears that they are on more favorable ground than before 🔛.
One factor that has contributed to the thawing of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia is the ongoing conflict between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Both countries see Iran as a threat to regional stability and both have a vested interest in keeping the region from descending into chaos 🇮🇷 ️. As a result both countries have been willing to set aside their differences in order to work together to counter Iran’s influence in the region ️.
Plus to their common interests when it comes to Iran Israel and Saudi Arabia have also found common ground on a many other issues 🔛 🇮🇱 🇮🇷 🇸🇦 ️. For example, both countries are committed to fighting terrorism, and have been able to work together to combat radical Islamic extremism . Plus both countries are committed to promoting economic growth and development in the region .
Despite their common interests Israel and Saudi Arabia still have a long way to go before they can be considered formal allies 🇮🇱 🇸🇦 ️. For starters Saudi Arabia has yet to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a nation 🇸🇦 ️. Furthermore the two countries are still divided on a many key issues for example, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict 🔛 🔑 2️⃣ ️. Until these issues can be satisfactorily resolved it is unlikely that the two countries will truly become allies.
That said it is clear that the relationship between Israel and Saudi Arabia has improved significantly in recent years 🇮🇱 🇸🇦. For years the two countries had few diplomatic relations and Saudi Arabia even led a boycott of Israeli goods. However the two countries have found common ground on a several issues and this has helped bridge some of the divisions between them 🔛 2️⃣ ️. While there is still a long way to go before the two countries are formal allies, it’s clear that diplomatic relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia have thawed significantly in recent years, and this is a positive sign for the future of the region. !! .
